What type of digital marketing strategies should we implement for a startup?

What type of digital marketing strategies should we implement for a startup? We are in the primary stage and do not have much money. 

Congratulations on starting your business. The amazing thing regarding digital marketing is that it doesn’t cost much money to get started.  But you do need to invest time, energy and creativity.   You need to be committed to a consistent and frequent investment of time.   But that’s what startups are all about!

We will go into a general marketing strategy and then focus on digital marketing solutions.

Design a well-rounded Marketing Plan

The first step is to devise a well-rounded Marketing Plan which includes

  • Digital Marketing
  • Traditional Marketing
  • Local Area Marketing
  • Product Funnels
  • Success Criteria
  • Metrics to illustrate the success

 

Whatever you decide, I recommend starting with an overall well-rounded Marketing Plan that includes every aspect of your marketing strategy.  Even if you have no intentions of implementing everything today, you will want a well-rounded, cohesive marketing plan as you move forward.

Digital Marketing

There are several pieces of a digital marketing strategy.

  • Understand what you want to accomplish with your digital marketing strategy
  • Implement metrics to verify that you are tracking against those goals.
  • Blog on stories your business, opinions on latest developments in the industry (using WordPress.com, plus you can build a website on this platform)
  • Social Media profile on Twitter and Facebook with content on your business start-up journey, latest trends in your industry, promoting your blog plus don’t forget Instagram to show any images. LinkedIn is good if you are targeting a B2B audience.
  • Email: this technique will be useful for targeting clients/customer but have links to your blog posts and social media channels.
  • SEO: develop profiles on Google My Business and Bing, from which will help enhance your presence in organic search.

All of these would form part of your inbound marketing strategy and the costs to implement this will be low.  These will help build trust and a reputation in the eyes of your customers about your business

Enable your website to collect leads

You will use the above to create quality backlinks to your websites. It will also help to improve your website presence on Google search results.

By including valuable content that followers will submit their contact information in order to download the content or offer.  This allows followers to opt-in to your newsletters, product brochures, and periodic updates.

If you don’t include a mechanism and strategy to collect the audience contact information, you are not using your digital marketing to build your leads or convert to actual sales.
